Spokane Intermodal Center

Spokane, Washington, is home to an intermodal transportation hub known as the Spokane Intermodal Center. The Greyhound, Trailways, Jefferson Lines buses, and the Amtrak Empire Builder, all stop here at their Spokane terminal.

Every day, passengers can board the Empire Builder in Chicago and travel to Spokane, Washington, from whence they can continue to Seattle or Portland, Oregon.

The Northern Pacific Railway commissioned the building in 1891. In 1994, it underwent renovations that allowed buses to use the station, making it a true intermodal hub.

Since 1981, the first six Superliner cars (five passenger cars, a diner, and a baggage car) have been delivered to Seattle's King Street Station, while the last four cars (the Sightseer Lounge, two coaches, and a sleeper) have been hauled by a single locomotive from Spokane to Portland Union Station.

Midway through the night, both eastbound trains meet up in Spokane and continue as one to Chicago Union Station. The following stations on the Seattle to Portland route are in Ephrata, Washington, and Pasco, Washington, respectively; the next station on the Portland to Seattle route is in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Before Amtrak, the Empire Builder used to divide in half between Seattle and Portland at Spokane.

You'll find the station just to the north of Interstate 90. It is located roughly 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of Gonzaga University and 0.5 miles (0.80 km) southwest of the Spokane Center of the University of Washington.
